The neighborhood
Lakeview is a neighborhood, located just 15 minutes from the "loop," on the north side of Chicago. It is located along the shores of Lake Michigan and runs approximately from Diversey Avenue on the south, to Irving Park Road on the north; from lakeshore on the east to Ashland Avenue on the west.
Lakeview was originally a suburb outside of the boundaries of Chicago , and was for a long time, a convenient summer getaway for the city's residents - back in the 1870's. Lakeview was annexed to the City of Chicago in 1889.
Today Lakeview is an upscale neighborhood consisting of Victorian gray stone row houses, town homes and high rises along Lake Shore Drive. Just north of Wrigley Field and around the corner from Lakeview Station is Alta Vista Terrace where historic homes were built in the early part of the 20 th Century.
Entertainment
Lakeview offers an eclectic variety of cafes, shops, antique stores, and other specialty shops. Lakeview Station provides easy access to Lake Shore Drive, the expressways, public transportation, plus horse drawn carriages for those who can afford it. Over the years a strong theatre presence has emerged, offering both experimental and more traditional and established productions. Some of the cities more intimate and well respected concert venues are located within the neighborhood. Nightlife is abundant, which makes for an exciting place to live.
Local Recreation and Adventure
As our name suggests we are just minutes from Chicago's Lakefront, the Bike Path, Belmont and Diversey Harbor, Beaches, Lincoln Park, the Waveland Golf Course and a place called Wrigley Field. In the year 2000 the Lakeview population was approaching 100,000 making it the second largest community within Chicago .
